How to pay attention in Finnish
How to pay attention in Finnish
Heres a small post about paying attention to something in Finnish, kiinnitt huomiota. Kiinni is closed or shut. Kiinnitt is to attach. Huomio is attention. The case government follows the same logic as English, so you should have the adverbial in illative.
- Kiinnitk huomiota thn. - Pay attention to this. (A command for many people.)
- Kiinnit huomiota siihen, kuinka hn keskustelee sotaveteraanien kanssa. - Pay attention to (it) how he talks with the war veterans. (Yes, Im talking about the Linnan juhlat on 6.12!)
- Min kiinnitin huomiota vain hnen kenkiins. - I just paid attention to his shoes. (M kiinnitin vaan huomiota sen kenkiin in colloqual Finnish.)
- En kiinnittnyt huomiota tuollaisiin yksityiskohtiin. - I didnt pay attention to such details.
p.s. Here is a very good list about the case governments. The website is called Uusi kielemme - Finnish for busy people.
