Musical Friday I See Fire

Dear friends,

Welcome to yet another #musicalfriday. I know it took me ages to get there, but I managed last Sunday to watch the lovely part 2 of the movie The Hobbit. As usually Peter Jackson is a brilliant producer and he selected just the very best music pieces for this movie. Part of the Original SoundTrack is also the piece that got stuck to my head and heart ever since I first heard it: I See Fire - sung by Ed Sheeran. The Desolation of Smaug is in a way summarized in this song.
It entered the UK Singles Chart at number 13 (is that lucky, or what?!) and reached number 1 in New Zealand on its sixth week, marking Sheerans first number-one single in the country. Chosen by The Hobbit director Peter Jackson, Sheeran saw the film, wrote the song, and recorded most of it on the same day (check out the original music video and you will see PJ there ;) love! love! love!). The song was released as a digital download on 5 November 2013. Its music video was released on the same day. The song has also since been nominated for a Satellite Award for Best Original Song
The official music video for "I See Fire" premiered on 5 November 2013, along with the release of the song. The video shows Sheeran during the production of the song and Sheeran performing the song, as well as shots of the film. Peter Jackson stating, "it was a great experience, and what you will see in this video are moments captured by our behind the scenes team during the creation of the song".

I See Fire - Ed Sheeran

Oh, misty eye of the mountain below
Keep careful watch of my brothers souls
And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke
Keep watching over Durins sons

If this is to end in fire
Then we should all burn together
Watch the flames climb high into the night

Calling out father oh
Stand by and we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side high

And if we should die tonight
Then we should all die together
Raise a glass of wine for the last time

Calling out father oh
Prepare as we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side
Desolation comes upon the sky

Now I see fire
Inside the mountain
I see fire
Burning the trees
And I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire
Blood in the breeze
And I hope that you remember me

Oh, should my people fall
Then surely Ill do the same
Confined in mountain halls
We got too close to the flame

Calling out father oh
Hold fast and we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side
Desolation comes upon the sky

Now I see fire
Inside the mountain
I see fire
Burning the trees
I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire
Blood in the breeze
And I hope that you remember me

And if the night is burning
I will cover my eyes
For if the dark returns
Then my brothers will die
And as the sky is falling down
It crashed into this lonely town
And with that shadow upon the ground
I hear my people screaming out

Now I see fire
Inside the mountains
I see fire
Burning the trees
I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire
Blood in the breeze

I see fire (oh you know I saw a city burning) (fire)
And I see fire (feel the heat upon my skin, yeah) (fire)
And I see fire (uh-uh-uh-uh) (fire)
And I see fire burn auburn on the mountain side

P.S. Did you know that The Hobbit was the first book Sheeran ever read, and he was a fan of both Tolkiens and Jacksons work? How cool is that, to see your dream come true?...

Yours truly,
A great Tolkien Fan - The Ladybug
